Law firm life got you down? Struggling to find work after law school? Read on. I am a former practicing attorney who regrets giving so many years of my life to the legal profession, and so many hard-earned dollars to repay law school debt. I left the law a couple years ago for a temporary administrative assistant position and lived to tell the tale. Here's my story, along with some tips for finding non-legal work, and for repaying your student loans.

Of course, the law school pigs love to proclaim "One can do ANYTHING with a law degree." Then again, those evil bitches and hags don't care about facts or the truth.
ReplyDeleteExactly. They're getting desperate, though. I'm sure you're familiar with their new "space law" pitch?
DeleteThat scam has been going on since the 80s-there was a whole cottage industry of books about all the things you could do with your law degree. My favorite-become a movie producer! The details...well, go to Harvard LS and...be a movie producer BEFORE you go to law school like the example given. It's a genuine scam-the lying has been going on for decades.
ReplyDeleteHa!! I bought a book in that vein while I was in law school. It was called "300 Things You Can Do with a Law Degree" or something like that. Utterly ridiculous. I think one guy opened a restaurant and was able to negotiate his own contracts with vendors. Wow! I believe I did that when I was the manager of a coffee shop back in my college years, no law degree required. The movie producer thing is priceless, though. Next thing you know, there will be a book about law degree origami. You know, in case the movie thing doesn't pan out.

This is a serious case. It's always good to see attorneys come in and help people though. I definitely know where to go in the future.

Have basically ended a two-decades old solo practice as a civil trial lawyer, to publish my books (see: You2Preneur.com) and play guitar in a touring electric funk band: SKINTIGHT NATION. Much happier. Advice to all those considering law school. Don't do it if it's a career you're looking for. There is no better formal business education, but this one will break you financially. And you won't see the financial return you are expecting.
ReplyDelete"You can use a law degree for anything." That would be ironic if he pressed for damages from his law school. Does price gouging apply to higher education? It would be ground-breaking if he and his school could settle out of court, not to mention a great reason for graduates everywhere to rejoice.

what if these so called lenders were scamming students too...would you know?
ReplyDeletewhat if they monetized your personal information and claimed it was a loan but did not tell you that your personal information formed a negotiable instrument which funded the so called loan. you loaned yourself the money and the so called lender asks you to pay them. they got more nerve than toothache....what value did they provide...what risk did they take? when a so called lender is asked these truth in lending questions they shut up real quick or try to intimidate the person into submission.
if there is no transparency in lending, is there really a loan? have fraud and
deception played a role in the transaction?
these so called lenders might owe you damages for fraud and a refund with interest.
unless you rebut the presumption that the transaction is legitimate they will continue to snooker swindle and take from you
